Must a Bilingual Mediator possess a native language skill?
There are no mentioned levels of linguistic competency in interpreting or translation professions and much less expressed need to address the level of linguistic competency in bilingual mediation. In a majority of mediation training syllabus and programs, culture is not emphasized and the issue of non-English speaking parties is rarely mentioned. This issue is address here as reference to mediators who are speaking another language to assess their own language skills and appraise their own assets of a bilingual treasure.
